Of course, the room is as stunning as it ever was - at least this could not be spoilt - but this is now a place to be visited only once to take some photos, but has none of the familiar atmosphere of a Hungarian coffee house which would lead you to go more than once. Written 1 February 2019.

Review of Book Cafe - Lotz Terem. Reviewed July 23, 2014. Set in the historic Pariszi Department Store, the Cafe has lovely hot drinks, cakes and atmosphere. The Decor is very attractive and service is fast and efficient. Its a good book store too with English books on the first floor.

Alexandra Bookcafe is probably the most beautiful of all confectionaries in Budapest, and our expectations were high as we prepared to taste the cakes and the drinks. We were lucky to get a free table as the place was almost packed - but our jury was unfortunately not too impressed by the quality of what they were later served.

The oldest cafè on our list is Hadik, opened in 1911 and became very popular in the 20s. It was the favourite place of many famous writers like Frigyes Karinthy, Árpád Tóth or Jenő Rejtő. In 1970 in the socialist era it was rebuilt into a shoe shop and remained a store until 2010 when finally we got back our old, bohemian coffee house.
